Tap Dance Classes for Children Near Canterbury
Rhythm, musicality and coordination — joyful classes that build confident young performers.
What Is Tap Dance?
Tap is an energetic, percussive dance style where the feet become musical instruments. It develops precise rhythm, clear sounds and expressive performance — and it’s brilliant fun. At Artists in Motion, we teach Tap in a supportive, age-appropriate way that helps each child find their groove and grow in confidence.
Why Tap Is Good for Children
- Rhythm & musicality: Children learn to hear, count and create rhythms with clarity.
- Coordination & agility: Footwork patterns improve balance, timing and quick reactions.
- Memory & focus: Combinations and call-and-response drills sharpen concentration.
- Confidence on stage: Performing upbeat routines builds presence and self-belief.
- Transferable skills: Tap strengthens timing and coordination for Theatre, Jazz and Street.
- Pure enjoyment: The instant feedback of sound keeps classes lively and engaging.
Our Tap Class Structure
Classes blend warm-ups, rudiments (shuffles, flaps, timesteps), travelling work, rhythm drills and choreography. We progress from clean basic sounds to syncopation, speed and stylistic variations — always with safe technique and musical understanding.
Tap Classes by Age Group
- Minis (4–6 years): Simple patterns, musical games and first tap steps.
- Juniors (7–10 years): Building sound quality, control and timing in short routines.
- Inters & Seniors (11–18 years): Advanced footwork, syncopation, timesteps, pickups and performance pieces.
What Will My Child Learn?
- Foundations: heel/toe drops, shuffles, taps, flaps
- Timesteps, pickups, cramp rolls and turns
- Rhythm reading, counting and call-and-response
