Acro Dance Classes for Children Near Canterbury

Build strength, flexibility and confidence in a safe, supportive class.

What Is Acro Dance?

Acro Dance — short for acrobatic dance — combines the strength and precision of gymnastics with the musicality and expression of dance. It develops balance, flexibility, control and confidence, making it a rewarding training pathway for young dancers.

At Artists in Motion, classes are carefully structured so every child progresses safely from foundations to more advanced skills, with qualified teachers who understand both the art and the science of Acro.

Why Is Acro Good for Children?

  • Strength & coordination: Builds core strength, balance and precise body control.
  • Flexibility & posture: Guided stretching and alignment support mobility and healthy posture.
  • Focus & discipline: Safe progressions teach patience, consistency and resilience.
  • Confidence: Each new skill achieved gives a genuine sense of pride and self-belief.
  • Supports other styles: Enhances Ballet, Street, Jazz and Theatre with better control and awareness.
  • Teamwork & trust: Partner balances and group work build communication and responsibility.

Is Acro Safe for Beginners?

Yes — when it’s taught properly. We follow recognised progressions, use professional Acro mats and spotting, and never rush a child before they’re ready. Technique, preparation and confidence come first.

Who Are Acro Classes For?

  • Minis (4–6 years): Balance, coordination and playful Acro basics.
  • Juniors (7–10 years): Flexibility, strength and safe technique for rolls and balances.
  • Inters & Seniors (11–18 years): Progressions, limbers, walkovers and choreography with Acro integration.

What Will My Child Learn?

Over time, students work towards:

  • Forward/backward rolls, bridges and handstands
  • Cartwheels, limbers and walkovers
  • Balances, transitions and tumbling sequences
  • Partner lifts and safe spotting principles

Skills are blended into dance choreography to create expressive, performance-ready routines.
