It’s a question we hear all the time — “Should my child start with ballet or hip hop?”
The simple answer is: both are brilliant choices, and which one’s “better” depends entirely on your child’s personality, energy and goals.

At Artists in Motion, we see young dancers thrive in every style, whether they love graceful turns or freestyle grooves. Let’s look at what each has to offer.

🩰 Ballet – Grace, Strength and Focus

Ballet is the perfect foundation for any dancer. It teaches posture, balance, discipline and musical awareness — all skills that transfer beautifully into every other style.

For younger children, early classes like Melody Movement and My First Ballet blend imaginative play with basic ballet steps, keeping it light and fun while laying strong foundations.

As they grow, ballet helps children develop confidence, concentration and control. It’s ideal for those who enjoy structure, storytelling and precision.

🕺 Hip Hop (Street & Commercial) – Confidence and Expression

Hip hop-inspired dance, or Street & Commercial, gives kids a chance to let loose and move with attitude. It’s expressive, social and full of confidence-building movement.

Children learn rhythm, coordination and teamwork, while getting an energetic workout — all set to the latest music they recognise. It’s perfect for lively personalities who love to perform and move freely.

❤️ Which One Is Better for Your Child?

There’s no “winner”. The healthiest approach is the one that fits your child’s interests and temperament.

For children who like structure, storytelling and technique → Ballet

For children who love energy, rhythm and freedom → Hip Hop / Street

Some AIM students even do both — ballet to build technique and street for confidence and performance skills. Together, they make a powerful combination.

🌟 The AIM Approach

We believe every child deserves to explore what makes them shine. That’s why our teachers focus on enjoyment, encouragement and safe progression, whatever the style.
