Beginners Dance Classes in Canterbury & South East England
Start Your Dance Journey with Confidence, You Never Have to Dance Alone
Welcome to the AIM Family
Where “New Kid” quickly becomes “Best Friend”
A Beginner Friendly Studio Experience
At Artists in Motion (AIM), we believe that walking into a dance studio for the first time should be exciting, not scary. But we also know the truth, trying something new takes courage.
Whether you are a parent looking for a nurturing start for your toddler, or a teen ready to express themselves, the fear of the unknown is real. You might be wondering where to go, who to talk to, or if you will be able to keep up.
That is why we have reimagined the beginner experience. We do not just teach dance steps, we build confidence, character, and community. And it all starts with one simple promise:
At AIM, you will never have to dance alone.
Introducing the AIM Buddy System
Your personal guide to the dance world
New for this season, we are proud to introduce the AIM Buddy System, a nurturing peer mentoring programme designed to banish first day jitters. We believe that friends who dance together stay together, so we make sure you have a friend from the very first moment you arrive at Intex House.
How it works
- Pairing at booking, when you book your trial class, we pair you (or your child) with an AIM Ambassador, a friendly, experienced student from the same age group who embodies our values of compassion and friendship.
- The warm welcome, no awkward waiting room moments. Your Buddy meets you at the door, shows you where to put your bag, and introduces you to your teacher.
- A “shadow” in class, for the first few lessons, your Buddy stays close, helps you follow the routine, and supports you if you get stuck.
- Instant connection, by the time the music stops, you will not just have learned a routine, you will have made a genuine connection.
“The Buddy System changed everything for us. My daughter was too shy to walk in, but knowing she had her ‘Big Sister’ waiting for her gave her the courage to let go of my hand. Now, she marches in with a smile!”
– AIM Parent
Why Artists in Motion
The premier dance destination for the South East
We are proud to be a leading dance authority for families in Canterbury and across the South East of England. We offer high quality training in a facility with professional sprung floors and specialised studios, including the Fosse and Bourne suites. But our true strength lies in our heart.
Under the guidance of Principal Lisa Steadman and Vice Principal Miss Fabienne, we have created a safe space where every student is seen, understood, and valued.
1, A home for every age and ability
Our curriculum is designed to grow with your child, offering a seamless pathway from first steps to advanced training:
- Parent and Tot (18 months to 3 years), share special moments in a class that supports physical literacy and bonding.
- Preschool and Minis (3 to 6 years), imagination takes centre stage, with confidence, coordination, and social skills built through fun, high energy sessions.
- Juniors and Seniors (7 to 13 plus), from Street Dance and Musical Theatre to Acro and Commercial, we offer styles to suit every personality.
- Specialised training, progress into options such as Aerial Academy, PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique), and Boys Crew.
2, Expert training with a nurturing tone
- We balance excellence with compassion, high standards, positive energy, and kind delivery.
- Our teachers are industry experienced and deliver high level technical training, including pathways such as ISTD and Acrobatic Arts exams.
- We believe a happy child is a successful learner, so confidence comes first, every time.
3, Overcoming the “too shy” barrier
If you think your child is too shy for dance, you are in the right place. Dance can be a brilliant outlet for shy children because it lets them express themselves without needing words.
- The Buddy System creates a low pressure social start, building trust with one friendly face before the full group.
- It is a gentle, supported way to build resilience and social confidence.
- Your child is never thrown in at the deep end, they are guided in.
