Musical Theatre & Performing Arts Classes in Aylesham, Near Canterbury
Sing. Dance. Act. Belong.
Welcome to the spotlight! At Artists in Motion (AIM), Musical Theatre is more than just jazz hands and show tunes—it’s where stories come to life, and confident young artists are born. Whether your child is a “West End wannabe” or a “shy wallflower” looking to find their voice, our Theatre School offers a warm, supportive, and electrifying environment to explore the magic of the stage.
Based in our purpose-built studios in Aylesham, just minutes from Canterbury, we combine professional training in the “Triple Threat” disciplines—Singing, Dancing, and Acting—with the nurturing care of the AIM family. We believe every child deserves a standing ovation, not just for what they do on stage, but for who they are becoming off it.
Creating Artists, Not Just Performers
Musical Theatre is the ultimate team sport. It requires the athleticism of a dancer, the emotional intelligence of an actor, and the courage of a singer. But at Artists in Motion, we add a fourth essential element: Community.
We understand that stepping into a new class can be daunting. That’s why we prioritize a culture of Compassion and Friendship.1 Unlike highly competitive environments that can feel isolating, AIM is a “Dance Family.”
The Buddy System
To ensure every child feels at home from day one, we use a dedicated “Buddy System”. Every new student is paired with a welcoming friend to guide them through the warm-ups, introduce them to the group, and ensure they never feel lost. It’s our way of ensuring that “welcome to the family” isn’t just a slogan—it’s a promise
Professional Studios, Professional Standards
While our hearts are warm, our training is serious. We don’t teach in school halls. Our classes take place in professional, purpose-built studios equipped with sprung floors to protect growing joints, full-length mirrors for technique, and professional sound systems. Grounded in the rigorous ISTD Modern Theatre syllabus , our training ensures that “fun” is always backed by “function” and safety.
| Class Level | Age Group | Focus & Goals |
|---|---|---|
| Mini Performers | Ages 4 – 6 | Imagination & Rhythm. We introduce the basics of the stage through play. Children learn to follow instructions, work in a circle, and explore rhythm. Expect Disney favourites, creative movement, and building social confidence. |
| Junior Theatre | Ages 7 – 10 | Skill Building & Technique. As students grow, we introduce structure. Juniors learn specific vocal warm-ups, basic script reading, and more complex dance combinations. They start to understand the “whys” of performance. |
| Senior/Inter Theatre | Ages 11+ | Performance & Artistry. For our older students, the focus shifts to polish. We tackle complex harmonies, character analysis, and demanding choreography. Ideal for those taking GCSE Drama or aspiring to vocational college. |
Why Musical Theatre?
Unshakable Confidence There is no greater confidence booster than mastering a routine and performing it for an audience. The resilience built in the studio translates to resilience in life.
Emotional Intelligence By playing different characters, children learn to view the world from different perspectives. This “empathy training” helps them navigate social dynamics with kindness.
Fitness with a Smile Musical Theatre is an intense physical workout that improves cardiovascular health, coordination, and flexibility —all while the students are having too much fun to realize they are exercising.
A Digital Detox In a screen-heavy world, our studio offers real-world connection. Students interact face-to-face, reading physical scripts and reading each other’s expressions.
Meet Your Mentors
