Aerial Academy – Silks, Hoop & Trapeze Near Canterbury
Strength, control and artistry in the air — taught safely on professional aerial equipment.
What Is Aerial?
Aerial arts combine dance and acrobatics performed on equipment suspended from overhead rigging. At Artists in Motion Aerial Academy, students train on silks, hoop (lyra) and static trapeze to develop strength, flexibility, coordination and expressive movement in the air.
Why Aerial Is Great for Children & Teens
- Total-body strength: Grip, shoulders, back and core engagement in every class.
- Flexibility & mobility: Safe progressions support splits, back-line and active range of motion.
- Confidence & focus: Clear goal-setting and spotting build trust and self-belief.
- Creativity: Learn sequences and create routines that blend dance with aerial vocabulary.
- Transferable skills: Excellent cross-training for Acro, Ballet, Contemporary and PBT.
Apparatus We Teach
- Aerial Silks: Climbs, foot locks, wraps and drops (introduced progressively).
- Aerial Hoop (Lyra): Mounts, balances, rolls and spinning technique.
- Static Trapeze: Poses, balances, hangs and dynamic transitions.
Apparatus is assigned by age/ability each term. Students rotate as appropriate to broaden skills safely.
Our Class Structure
Each session includes a thorough warm-up, strength/conditioning, skill progressions on apparatus, short sequences and a cool-down with mobility work. We prioritise excellent technique and correct form before advancing to higher-level skills.
